
Deacon Smith was employed by Key Bank of Long Island for 25 years, over these years he was promoted to positions of responsibility from Personnel Officer, Bank Operations officer and finally as Relationship Manager/Vice President for the Government Agencies. As Bank Operations Officer he was responsible for the supervision of 35 employees. In his last position, it was his duty to build profitable relationships between Key bank and the various county and city districts along with the school districts on Long Island, NY. He received a BS Degree in Management of Human Resources in 1994 from St. Joseph College, Patchogue, NY and was honored as the Salutatorian of his graduating class.
Deacon Smith retired from Key Bank in January of 2000 and moved to Spring Hill. In December of that year he began working for the State of Florida Department of Health here in Hernando County as the Senior Clerical Supervisor for the Women’s and Infant Children Program (WIC). In this capacity he managed a department of 5 staff persons and was responsible for the new and ongoing certification of clients. He has been assisting at weekend and daily masses since he and his Rose Marie registered in the parish in the spring of 2000. He and Rose Marie have three sons and four grandchildren.
Upon completion of his studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary he was ordained a Permanent Deacon in February of 1983 for the Diocese of Rockville Centre and served in St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish, Sayville, NY for 17 years.
In September of 2001 Deacon Smith accepted the position of Parish Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the parish. Deacon Smith also facilitates the summer inquiry sessions for the RCIA.
When not at the church he enjoys golfing, woodcarving and various mediums of artwork.
